VC's 'Garden Pleasures' flower show open to Jamestown exhibitors

Monday at the Eagles Aerie at 345 12th Ave. NE in Valley City. It is open to everyone, including Jamestown residents, whether you are a member of a garden club or not. A standard flower displays horticulture and artistic divisions. This includes potted plants, cut specimens of plants, blooming specimens, plus educational displays in the horticultural division. Categories are divided as specimens arrive, so if there is no specific category for your plant, the clerks will know how to place it. The design section includes flower arrangements that must follow given directions, such as all fresh materials for tricolor, or all dried materials for award of distinction. The miniature flower arrangement always needs to be in scale to its container, be no larger than 8 by 8 inches in any direction, and have the same overall design principles applied to it that would be on a larger design. The show includes a junior division with horticulture and design sections. Attend the show and learn about horticultural specimens that perform well in our growing zone 4. Grow It & Eat It, an annual community seminar on growing vegetables. A celebration of Art’s life will be held Wednesday, January 27, at the Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 3287 Ironbound Road in James City County. The service will begin at 2 p.m. with a reception afterward. Please come join us. His ashes will be laid to rest in a separate ceremony in the Ecoeternity Forest at Makemie Woods, a 275 acre Presbyterian camp and conference center in New Kent County.
