A Milford couple is partnering with Country Flowers to plant the seeds of a new business.
Bruce Fisher and Diane Stief merged with Country Flowers Nov. 1 to open Milford Plant, Flower & Garden Shop at 909 N. Walnut St.
Fisher, who has a background in composting and mulch, thought partnering with Country Flowers was a good way to provide more options for their customers.
“The two businesses just complement each other,” Fisher said. “To have that entire selection available in one place isn’t what most places do. You either go to a flower shop or you go to a garden center.”
Fisher said he and his wife decided to start the business in Milford after learning about a property that was once a flower shop.

A light blue legal pad with purple pen scribblings lies on Vicky Hanseling’s desk calendar that was partially shredded from an art project.
Hanseling, owner of Heartspun Flowers and Events, spends her early mornings at her store making lists of things to do and items that need to be picked up from other stores.
“I come in and just try to keep everything updated,” Hanseling said. “I organize myself as best as I can in the morning because I get hit with work super fast.”
A former nurse and social worker, Hanseling has been in the floral business for about five years but previously operated her business from her home. Nathalia 'Tollie' Johnson, loved to volunteer
Feb 3, 2018Mulco Products (The Spoon Mill) and Stevenson House. She was a member of Houston U.M. Church, the Red Hat Society, and both Harrington and Milford senior centers where she loved to volunteer. She also loved to read and play pinochle. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Allen; a son, Randall; a grandson, Gary Lane, and her brother, Theodore "Ted" Nelson.
Tollie is survived by two children, Douglas A. Johnson of Arlington, Va. and Nancy S. Lane of Dover; four grandchildren, Bobbie Morris and husband David of Milton, Monica Rollins and husband David of Lewes, Diane Johnson and husband Brian Cardarelli, of Monrovia, Md., and Nicholas Johnson, of Arlington; five great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Houston U.M. Church, Harrington or Milford Senior Center or the charity of your choice.
