Man charged with setting Christmas Day mosque fire

Dec 30, 2018

A man charged with setting fire to a Houston mosque on Christmas Day told investigators he only learned of the fire from a friend and regularly attended services there, but the president of the group that runs the mosque said he did not consider the man to be a regular. The suspect, 37-year-old Gary Nathaniel Moore, was arrested early Wednesday morning on a charge of felony arson at his home in southwest Houston, authorities said. Khan said Moore was not a member of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston. With a motive still unknown, Khan and others urged people not to speculate. "If this was not a hate crime, it should not be exploited as such," U.S. Rep. Al Green said at a Wednesday press conference of law... http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Man-charged-with-setting-Christmas-Day-mosque-fire-6728765.php

Noles, Cougars Share Lengthy And Colorful History

Dec 30, 2018

Division I and Division I-AA, forerunners to the FBS and FCS, Florida State and Houston were regular gridiron opponents. The Seminoles and Cougars were still in their formative years – FSU played its first football season in 1947, a year after Houston launched its program - when they met 15 times in a 16-year stretch from 1960-1975. The scheduling arrangement was one of convenience between independent football programs, a common practice of that era. Prior to the New Year’s Eve Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl meeting on Thursday, the Seminoles and Cougars last met in 1978. Oddly enough, the programs are also inextricably linked in each other’s record books. With a 12-2-2 all-time series lead, Houston’s .813 winning percentage against FSU is the highest against any opponent it has faced at least 10 times. Conversely, the Seminoles’ .187 winning percentage against the Cougars is their lowest against any opponent they have faced at l... http://www.seminoles.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID%3D210605848
