Parks and Recreation replanting shrubs and flowers along Beach Road
Jun 22, 2018Recreation personnel on Wednesday planted trees and shrubs to replace those that were uprooted by last year’s typhoons in the area across from the Ada Gym on Beach Road.
Division Director Eli Cabrera said they replanted Ixora coccinea plants that were removed from Garapan.
“We’ll cover this area [across from the Ada Gym] with plants to protect the ground so that vehicles will park in the proper area rather than on the grass so it won’t get damaged. It’s summer time but the grass here is not healthy.”
He said hopefully they will have enough plants to cover the area from Borja Funeral Home to the 4H Club building.
“Pine trees are scarce. We couldn’t find any. This month we’ve been looking for plants to replace those that were damaged during the typhoons. We want to replace those plants and decorate Beach Road for our residents and tourists alike,” Cabrera said.
Parks and Recreation is responsible for the islands’ parks and recreation sites, including public restroom facilities.
Cabrera said he does not have any updates regarding the restrooms at recreational sites, but added that they still have some issues with the water line. The facilities, however, are clean, he said. “We just have to work with [the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.] ... http://www.mvariety.com/cnmi/cnmi-news/local/87173-parks-and-recreation-replanting-shrubs-and-flowers-along-beach-road
