3 Steps to Make Home Altar Flower Arrangements for Our Lady of Guadalupe
Dec 15, 2018Virgen de Guadalupe. Catholic parishes and Latino dominated Episcopal and Lutheran congregations revere her with gifts of flowers, serenades, mariachi and Aztec dancers.
"Today the Virgencita Mexicana, or, patroness of Mexico is recognized as a symbol of love, peace and compassion," says Monica Valencia Los Angeles Archdiocese spokesperson. Our Lady attracts worldwide appeal to those honoring the mystical, divine feminine and mother goddess traditions too, according to Anne Baring and Andrew Harvey authors of "The Divine Feminine, Exploring the Feminine Face of God Around the World".
"In these troubled times home altar flower arrangements create a lush, beautiful sanctuary for people on any spiritual path to remember to take time daily to be quiet, pray, and meditate," says Myra Alba, co-owner of El Poblano Flowers at California Flower Mall. Alba offers these steps to build a home altar:
Make it personal: there is no right or wrong way to make a home altar. Assemble fresh roses, fabrics, scarfs, cloth, candles and items that are personally meaningful or sacred.
Select a prominent place in your home: one that is seen regularly as a reminder to take the time to pray and meditate. Consider surfaces like a fireplace mantle, side table or low book shelf. Use the flat surface or make two or three levels or steps using small boxes or books. Cover the flat surface and steps with fabric. If needed, use adhesive tape to secure fabric. Arrange roses, candles and sacred items: intuitively sense where to place sacred items, candles and roses. Now, light the candles and begin meditating on a personal miracle.
