WATSONVILLE >> Police on Thursday tried to gather clues in the case of a 15-year-old Watsonville boy who was shot several times and died on a Magnolia Drive sidewalk Wednesday night.
The boy was attacked about 6:20 p.m. near Magnolia Drive and Lawrence Avenue about two blocks from South Green Valley Road, police said. He did not live in the neighborhood, and Watsonville police Lt. Saul Gonzalez said the attack contained ”gang overtones.”
The boy’s name is expected to be released Monday, Gonzalez said. He was known to police, and Gonzalez said the boy’s family is grieving and “having a really hard time.”
Gonzalez said, “We need help solving this case and we need to work together as a community to bring the suspects to justice.”
Although police said the attack was not a drive-by shooting, the driver of a dark sedan fled quickly after the attack, Gonzalez said.
Police did not give descriptions of the suspect or suspects in the sedan.
“It’s early on and we have very little leads,” Gonzalez said Thursday morning. “We are hopeful” of making an arrest, Gonzalez said, especially given that Watsonville police have made arrests in the other four homicides in the city this year.
