Lester R. Kluting
Dec 30, 2018Chester and Mattie Kluting.
On March 27, 1959, he married Doris Kuykendall in Roswell. The marriage service was performed by Judge Perry Bean, a descendant of the famous Judge Roy Bean.
Lester served in the Army during World War II in Europe and made many lasting friendships there, attending Army reunions for years.
He had numerous jobs during his lifetime – including farmer, postman and volunteer fireman – but his main career was in the trucking industry. The last 15 years before his retirement, he was a tanker driver for Truckstops of America. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family, other drivers, coworkers, neighbors and friends.
Lester accepted the Lord as his Savior at a young age and lived his life as an example of Christ’s love. He was a member of Fairacres Baptist Church from 1996 until his death and had a church home in every place he lived.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; daughters Patricia McGinnis and husband Larry of Arkansas and Laura Rowan and husband Wallace of Las Cruces; grandson Wade Cockrell of Hawaii; sister Rebecca Phillips of Carlsbad; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other loved ones and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight of his siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice or Fairacres Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Getz Funeral Home of Las Cruces. Condolences may be expressed online at www.getzcares.com.

IMA's Lilly House offers Holiday in Bloom
Dec 22, 2018History aside, 'Holiday in Bloom' is full of color and Christmas cheer. The IMA's Stephanie Perry with the Indianapolis Museum of Art about the event.
STEPHANIE:
It smells amazing. To go with our theme this year, everything is living plants. We have everything from the traditional poinsettias, which many people have in their home to orchids and cyclamen and Amaryllis and paper whites. It is just a spectacular dazzling display of color.
CARRIE:
And it's a wonderful opportunity to take in the history of the Lilly house while taking in the living plants and flowers.
STEPHANIE:
Exactly! We still have it decorated in the 30s and 40s decor. We have the traditional trees and some of the more throwback vintage decor pieces. But, mixed in with those bright colors it really is a great juxtaposition.
CARRIE:
And coming up a wonderful event for the entire family right here on the grounds that includes the house.
