Grant, land advocates receive bouquets
May 3, 2018Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff of Norwalk acknowledged that the legislator could "do a better job of making it transparent," but added that it would be impractical for each transfer to have its own bill and be considered by every legislator. The lawmakers in the district in question are accountable for the land transfers, he said.
We are glad a conversation has started regarding land handovers and swaps. Much of the land in state parks is not protected in perpetuity, such as land owned by a local land trust, so it is vital to hold legislators accountable when these land transfers are proposed.

Smart, commission receive bouquets
May 3, 2018On Thursday, Smart spoke at the STAR, Inc., Speakers Luncheon and helped to raise $50,000 for the Norwalk nonprofit organization.

Organizers had hidden nearly 10,000 eggs in fields and planned to hold a staggered start based on age to give the littlest children a head start. Instead what happened was chaos as some parents pushed their children to "jump the gun" and rush the fields. One organizer described the crowd as "kind of like locusts." It's a shame this time honored tradition for children was ruined by these parents. What's even more sad is that these parents are encouraging their children to be aggressive, pushy and greedy. Here's hoping that this life lesson is one that does not stick.
A final bouquet goes to the Norwalk Charter Revision Commission for this week recommending a four-year term for Norwalk's mayor. Commissioner Steven Keogh said the group believes that a four-year term, instead of the current two-year term, will "promote effective administration in both offices," referring to the recommendation to also leave... http://www.thehour.com/opinion/editorials/smart-commission-receive-bouquets/article_37993251-83de-5fed-9e9f-7da3987ea8d5.html
