City council to consider allowing marijuana grow operations
Dec 30, 2018When you till under cauliflower, you have some of those issues,” he said. The smell "can be a factor on a farm in unincorporated areas or rural Marion County.”
Gottgetreu said the city does have ordinances in place for nuisance odors.
Planning Commissioner Stacey Posegate said she wanted to be assured there were fire prevention strategies in place, particularly with the production of butane hash oil.
The state does not allow the production of hash oil under any conditions. However, she wanted the code to specifically mention the restriction in case state regulations change.
Industrial park co-owner Terry Castor said the city has an opportunity to be in front of the industry.
“Last month Marion County commissioners voted not to allow marijuana to be grown in agricultural areas,” he said. “Silverton’s industrial park will be the only place it is allowed. This is projected to be a billion-dollar industry and puts Silverton in a unique position to nurture and grow this industry.”
The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend the city council adopt the code changes. Commissioners Jeff DeSantis and Clay Flowers did not attend the meeting.
