Los Carpinteros in London. This month saw the unveiling of the newly installed “Europe 1600–1815” galleries at the Victoria & Albert Museum—and with them, The Globe, a commissioned work by Los Carpinteros. A curved architectural sculpture that seats up to 30 people, The Globe continues Los Carpinteros’ exploration of the ‘panopticon,’ with their mandates for surveillance and control. At the V&A, The Globe will be used for quiet contemplation and informal conversations about Enlightenment-related topics. Here, a video of the artists discussing the work.

Exquisite cross-stitch street art adds colorful blooms to Spain's city streets
Oct 5, 2018Cross-stitching is not just for grandmothers—Madrid artist Raquel Rodrigo of Arquicostura is taking the decorative embroidery to the next level with gorgeous floral patterns that blanket forgotten urban spaces with blooms. Unlike traditional cross-stitching, Rodrigo’s artworks are large scale and make use of fencing materials and thick rope. Despite the difference in size, Rodrigo’s exquisite floral patterns still capture cross-stitching’s beloved pixelated texture.
Rodrigo brings her cross-stitching skills to the streets of Spain, from cities like Madrid to Valencia. She begins each artwork with the installation of a nearly transparent wire mesh in front of a building facade. The wire mesh serves as the base for the colored rope. Rodrigo is most well known for her macro embroidery of traditional red roses.

Former IMF boss to stand trial in bank card trial
Feb 3, 2018The court statement showed that between 2003 and 2012, during the tenure of both Rato and Blesa, former board members and executives at Caja Madrid and later Bankia spent just over 12 million euros on company credit cards.
“A sort of compensation system was established that lacked any legal protection,” the court document said of the scheme.
When news of the scandal first emerged two years ago, the purchases, a mix of the mundane and the extravagant — from cinema tickets, groceries and flowers to jewels, holidays and clothes — fueled Spaniards’ anger against graft as they suffered through a deep recession.
Corruption has been Spaniards’ second-biggest concern since early 2013, official polls show, behind only the country’s sky-high unemployment rate.
