Plymouth Woman’s Club disbanding
PLYMOUTH – Organized in 1912 as a charitable, nonprofit organization, the founding mission of Woman's Clubs was to promote community improvements through volunteer service. Over the years the mission was implemented through direct service, raising funds for scholarships and supporting initiatives that provide educational, enrichment and essential services. At the club’s meeting Dec. 2, club President Judith Barber stressed that these goals had been achieved and that due to members' lifestyle changes, it was time to disband the group.
The details of this will be aired on “PACTV Community News” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, on public access channels 13 Comcast and 43 Verizon. The show will be repeated at 1 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. Saturdays and 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and can be viewed on YouTube PACTV Community News channel. See www.pactv.org for more information.
Pine Barrens walk
CARVER – The public is invited to join MassWildlife biologists from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, for a walk through portions of a 110-acre pitch pine/scrub oak forest where habitat work is scheduled for winter 2016. Meet at the DCR (Department of Conservation and Recreation) offices at 194 Cranberry Road in Carver. Wear sturdy boots and dress for cold weather.
This work includes mowing/mulching of trees and shrubs to thin the canopy and reduce fuel loads to enable prescribed burning in the future. The Southeast Pine Barrens Wildlife Management Area is home to multiple specialized animals and plants that rely on fire-adapted ecosystems to thrive. Learn about MassWildlife’s Biodiversity Initiative and Key Sites effort, programs designed to benefit rare and declining species. Management work on the Southeast Pine Barrens WMA will improve habitat for rare moths, butterflies and plants, as well as game animals including wild turkey, cottontail rabbits, deer and quail.
