LETTER: Wild flowers
Sep 28, 2018Wildflower Lewes is a group of residents who are creating patches of wild flower growth throughout the town in order to help bees and butterflies find their way through “green corridors”.
We hope that this will bring pleasure to residents and visitors as well as increasing biodiversity. If you would like to join, please find our Facebook page – Wildflower Lewes.

PICTURES: Fun and flowers at Lewes Garland Day
May 18, 2018Waiting for Video...
Men, women and children danced through the streets of Lewes decked in beautiful flowers for this year’s annual Garland Day celebration.
Drizzly weather didn’t dampen the spirits of all those who came to take part and watch the May Day event.

The celebrations started at 10am with a children’s garland competition in the Gun Garden at Lewes Castle.
From there, groups of dancers joined a procession down High Street holding intricate floral arches and bright bouquets, accompanied by young children with pretty flowers entwined in their hair.
The parade came to an end in Cliffe Precinct, where dancers including The Knots of May, Long Man Morris and Blackpowder Morris continued to put on a show for the many spectators lining the streets of Lewes.
The historic tradition was started in 1874 by the then mayor of Lewes Mr JF Verrall and was revived by the Knots of May in 1980.

Floral Inspirations blooming in Lewes
Apr 28, 2018Locally, Norman is teaching floral design at the Osher Institute and has opened a full-service floral studio, Floral Inspirations, out of his home in Lewes, where he is available for design consultations, event planning, sympathy tributes, wreaths and holiday decor for his growing clientele.
Less than a year after he came to the Cape Region, Norman said his schedule is filling up, between creating his own arrangements for the business, flower shows and special events, but there's still room for growth in the new flower business.
He offers a spectrum of arrangements such as Tangerine Dream and Peaceful Lilies for delivery through his website, floralinspirations.us, to mark special events, sympathy and holidays for his growing clientele. The designer is also available for special events.
"I've got some weddings on the books, but there's still room for more," Norman said.
Weekends are filling up fast, but the designer said he can offer a range of choices at a variety of price points, which is quickly making Floral Inspirations the go-to studio for wedding planners.
"I can get flowers from all over the world," Norman said. "It can be challenging here, because I typically have to travel at least an hour to pick up supplies in metropolitan areas; but I can get all kinds of flowers."
As a longtime instructor, the designer offers floral-themed activities to civic groups, garden clubs, floral enthusiasts and educational institutions in the form of presentations and lectures, team-building activities, demonstration and hands-on workshops for all skill levels.
His next civic engagements include a tulip presentation in Zwaanendael Park at noon, Saturday, April 9, during the Lewes Tulip Festival, another at the Lewes Public Library at 11 a.m., Monday, April 11, and a hands-on spring flower arrangement workshop at 10 a.m., Wed... http://capegazette.villagesoup.com/p/floral-inspirations-blooming-in-lewes/1504288
