Longtime Daly City Mayor Klatt remembered as tough, with a heart for community
Feb 2, 2018Former Daly City mayor and longtime public servant Carol Klatt died Jan. 20 at her home in Las Vegas.
Klatt, 77, died after being diagnosed with late-stage fatty liver disease, according to family members.
She served over two decades on the City Council, including five terms as mayor. Klatt retired from the council December 2014. She and her husband, John, relocated to Las Vegas to be closer to their son.
Klatt’s career of public service began before she joined the City Council. Klatt and her husband moved to Daly City in 1964, and she soon became a volunteer and neighborhood activist, serving in numerous civic organizations.
In a previous conversation with the San Francisco Examiner, Klatt credited the late former Daly City Mayor Al Teglia with encouraging her to seek public office. This led to her 1991 appointment to the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission. Then, when Councilwoman Jane Powell abruptly resigned in 1993, Klatt was appointed to serve the remainder of her term.
