'X-Files' goes heavy on the fan-service in 'Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster'
Feb 2, 2018Will it be a movie or on TV?
Along with callbacks to Scully’s dog and the notion that she’s immortal, the standout tributes came in the form of tombstones in the cemetery scene between Mulder and Mann. Here, Agent Mulder shows up to confront Mann and brings flowers which he sets down at a tombstone with the name Kim Manners on it.
For fans of “X-Files” and “Supernatural,” the name will conjur up images of some really fantastic episodes of genre television’s past. In 2009, Manners passed away from lung cancer and with an episode like this one — which celebrates the on-screen genre’s quirkier days — it feels like a nice nod to the producer/director.
“It’s really our way of dedicating the episode, if not the show to him,” Chris Carter tells E! News. “It’s funny, I couldn’t imagine doing The X-Files without Kim coming back, but I had to because he’s no longer with us. I wore my little ‘K.M.’ button in his honor and [writer-director Darin Morgan] decided to put his name on a headstone.”
Jack Hardy, the late A.D. who worked on “Millennium” and “X-Files: I Want to Believe” also received his own tombstone in the scene. Still, the heartstrings plucked strongly in the absence of Manners.
“Kim, first among a group of—I think—largely unsung directors on the show…as much as the writers, the directors were responsible for figuring out how to scare us, how to thrill us, how to horrify us and how to make us laugh,” Carter adds.

The series creator continues, “Kim could do all of those things, as could David Nutter, Rob Bowman, Dan Sackheim, Bob Goodwin—these directors—Kim directed most episodes out of any of them—I think are owed a huge debt and helped put The X-Files on the map in a big way.”
The callbacks don’t stop there as actor Alex Diakun shows up as the weird hotel manager. Fans will recognize him for his previous work on the series, as well as his appearance in... http://zap2it.com/2016/02/x-files-kim-manners-tribute-kolchak-night-stalker-nod/
