Volunteers needed to help Glendale Rose Parade float 'get there'
Dec 15, 2018The long road to reviving the annual Glendale Rose Parade float entry is almost over as volunteers are now being called upon to start decorating it this weekend.Volunteers must sign up at glendalerosefloat.com/volunteer and head to Phoenix Decorating, 835 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, to lend a hand.
Volunteers can decorate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and again on Dec. 19. They must stay the entire shift.A lack of funding caused Glendale to miss the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade, the first time the community was absent from the parade in a century.
This year, thanks to a contribution from the city and fundraising efforts by the Glendale Rose Float Assn., there will be a 2016 entry named “Getting There Is Half the Fun.”“It’s exciting because we have worked so hard throughout the year to come to this moment, to this float up close and personal,” said Cindy Badell-Slaughter, an association member. She praised the float’s color and said, “It’s beautiful, it’s huge, and it’s very intricate.”Those looking to get ... http://www.latimes.com/socal/glendale-news-press/community/tn-gnp-volunteers-needed-to-help-glendale-rose-parade-float-get-there-20151211-story.html
City of Glendale, CA – Rose Parade Float
Nov 27, 2018Dimensions: 24’H x 18’W x 55’L
Builder: Phoenix Decorating Company
Glendale’s official City bird, the peacock – with its iridescent tail incorporating the City’s logo – proudly leads the way on Glendale’s 2016 Tournament of Roses entry, “Getting There is Half the Fun.” Every journey can be an adventure and this year’s float invites you to discover some of Glendale’s great travel adventures, both historic and present day. High overhead we can spot an airplane reminiscent of the Ford Tri-motor flown by Ameila Earhart in 1929 from Columbus, Ohio to Glendale’s Grand Central Air Terminal to inaugurate transcontinental air service in this country. Glendale’s Grand Central Terminal was home to many of our nation’s most adventurous aviation pioneers including Charles Lindberg, Howard Hughes, and Wiley Post. Beneath the plane we see a historic steam locomotive highballing it out of Glendale on its way north to travel adventures along the Pacific Coast and beyond. Beneath the train, within the arches of the bridge, we see a number of famous Glendale landmarks i... http://ktla.com/2015/11/25/city-of-glendale-ca-rose-parade-float/
Pass It On Day Sept. 11 at The Tulip Tree
Oct 22, 2018Just a reminder that Glendale florist Judy Haenel will repeat her annual tradition of giving away thousands of free roses.
Haenel said, “this year is the 20th anniversary of Pass It On Day and 14 years since 9/11 and the tragedy in New York City. We now dedicate Pass It On Day to remembering the people and events of Sept. 11, 2001. We have turned the day into a celebration of being good neighbors and community members, and to honoring all first responders and military members.”
Haenel, the owner of The Tulip Tree at 59th Avenue and Bell Road, estimates that by the end of the day, 4,000 flowers will have been distributed at no charge.
She invites people 18 and older to come to the shop and pick up a dozen roses apiece. Each person is asked to keep one rose and pass along the other 11 to friends, neighbors, co-workers, or whoever they want to honor or thank with a beautiful flower. It’s a no-strings-attached arrangement and everybody is on the honor system.
Haenel said, “I cover the cost myself because it’s ... http://www.glendalestar.com/features/article_d21f3598-5716-11e5-a389-5bd9e36f5378.html
